Georgia responded to all queries very promptly and was very happy to arrange a taxi from the airport to the villa.(This cost 44 Euro) Both Georgia and her husband, Dionysus, were very helpful and gave us lots of recommendations about where to eat around the area and in Chania and day trips to various beaches. Really pleasing touches were the enormous bowl of fruit, the bottle of Cretan wine, the jug of raki and olive oil which were left for us on arrival. We didn’t have to buy any fruit all week. The villa is situated in a very quiet spot outside the village of Maleme. There are restaurants here, but there are much better quality ones in Girani, Platanias and Chania, which are just a short bus ride away. Inka supermarket is a pleasant walk from the villa. A car would be useful, but isn’t necessary and it is good not to have to drive on holiday. It is much better to use public transport. The buses are great – clean, efficient, airconditioned, regular – and cheap. And they have conductors! It is two very easy bus journeys back to the airport at a total cost of 9.60Euro for two people. The villa itself is beautiful and very clean. The bedding and towels are changed on Tuesdays which is great. The villa is really well equipped with everything necessary for an enjoyable holiday, plus extra items like the dishwasher and washing machine. There is also WIFI, The villa is very private and not overlooked at all. The large bedroom is lovely. The bed is very comfortable and has a mosquito net, essential if, like me, you are susceptible to being bitten and react badly. The garden and patio area are beautiful and offer as much sun or shade as you want. We ate outside on the patio every day. The pool, although small, is perfect for cooling down. An extra delight is Baby – the resident cat – very friendly and at the end of our week – very spoilt! I would definitely recommend this villa and I would definitely return.

Well, my wife and I are making plans for our anniversary and are reflecting back on what a wonderful stay we had at this villa, so I thought to write a review. We can’t say enough about this little place! We stayed for five days. It has a relax, comfortable and peaceful feel. We felt settled in right away with the shaded patio, beautiful pool and the simplicity of the villa. The pool was nice to lay around in the morning before we drove to beaches or town. We had night swims, but the water was a little chilly. The kitchen had the essentials to make simple meals. The bed was comfortable. The property is off the main road a few blocks & is not in town, so a car is needed to get around. Beaches are nice and beautiful; there’s a pebbly beach a few blocks away and sandy beaches are about 45 mins away by car. The villa got hot in the afternoon and at night, but Dionysus fixed the cooling unit as soon as we reported it & it was fine from there. The island has things to do, i.e., snorkeling, beaching, sailing, visiting Old Town and shops in town. Food in town is very good, Greek and other choices and we loved the Raki after each meal! Giorgia and Dionysus were wonderful hosts; they’re very warm and nice people. They were attentive to our needs & explain where to find restaurants and things to do. They handed us the keys and gave us our privacy, but if we had questions, they were just a phone call away. They both speak English very well. Our two week stay at Villa Sofas was so wonderful we have already planned our return next year! Why it was so wonderful is for the reasons many other reviewers have already articulated: the attention to detail from the moment of booking to the lovely personal welcome upon arrival made us feel like personal friends staying in a loved family house rather than unknown paying guests on vacation. The villa is delightful, tastefully furnished and well equipped and the visiting cats can be a part of that experience as much or as little as you wish (for our part the visiting cats greatly enhanced our stay!). Georgia and Dionysus are passionate about Crete and are a fantastic source of information on food, history and culture which was a lovely unexpected contribution to our overall experience. We hired a car which enabled us to explore the fantastic scenery and points of interest around western Crete all of which is easily accessible from the villa. For those days when not walking or site seeing the villa and pool which is, as described, totally private and secluded, was a relaxing place to while away the hours. The only problem….we have to wait until next year to return!
